2007

Gymbo’s started in 2007 with one clear mission: to help people get fitter, stronger, and healthier in a way that felt personal and supportive. From humble beginnings as a freelance personal training service inside a large health club, we focused on giving every client the individual care and results they deserved.

2008

Demand quickly grew, and in 2008 we opened our very first dedicated training space. Small and cosy, it gave members the privacy and focus they wanted, with expert coaching at the centre. Before long, our community expanded, and we welcomed our first additional trainer so more people could benefit from our approach.

2013

By 2013, we had outgrown our space. We moved to our current home in Meldreth — a bigger, better facility designed to bring people together. For the first time, we could run small group sessions alongside personal training, giving members the choice of individual focus or shared motivation. Our team doubled to 4 trainers, each committed to helping more people move better, get stronger, and feel healthier.

2017

In 2017, we took the next big step: launching our unique hybrid model of gym and personal training with the opening of Gymbo’s Sawston. This was more than just a gym — it was a place where expert coaching, community, and a friendly atmosphere came together. With 8 trainers now on board, we were able to support more people than ever.

2026

The success of Sawston proved what our community already knew: our model worked. In 2026, we brought Gymbo’s to Royston, replicating our hybrid approach and expanding our family of trainers from 8 to 13. By this point, Gymbo’s had delivered over 75,000 personal training and group sessions and supported more than 6,000 people on their health and fitness journeys since the very beginning. With more space, more coaching, and more opportunity, we continue to deliver on our mission: helping people move stronger, live better, and thrive at every stage of life.

James – Founder & Head Coach

James founded Gymbo’s in 2007 with a simple mission: to help people move better, get stronger, and enjoy the process of training. Starting out as a one-man personal trainer, his passion, energy, and dedication quickly built a loyal following, and what began as a small service has since grown into a thriving fitness community across Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

With over 15 years of experience in personal training and coaching, James has worked with clients of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to advanced athletes. His philosophy is simple: fitness should be challenging, but always supportive and rewarding.

Today, James leads the Gymbo’s team with the same enthusiasm he started with, driving the ethos of expert coaching, personal attention, and a welcoming community that makes every member feel at home.
